Sharon Piper, MD

Dr. Sharon M. Piper has retired from practice as a board-certified obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) doctor after providing 25 years of post-graduate and professional experience to her female patients in the Nashville, Tennessee area. We at WOMEN wish her the best in her new adventures and owe her a debt of gratitude for her vision of personalized care in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

She has been involved in medicine since the receipt of her Nursing Diploma from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1975. She worked as a nurse in Toledo, Ohio and with time her passion for providing healthcare to women led to her completing her undergraduate studies with Cum laude honors and fulfilled her dream of being accepted into medical school. Dr. Piper completed her Doctor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1987. She achieved academic distinction during her time as a medical student resulting in her being  inducted into the prestigious national Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and receiving the American Medical Women’s Association’s Janet Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation for Scholastic Excellence. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Piper completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center located in Nashville, Tennessee and became board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993.

Dr. Sharon M. Piper’s passion is WOMEN Obstetrics and Gynecology, PLC, located in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Piper founded this all female private practice group shortly after completing her residency in 1991. She then became an Associate on the Medical Staff at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital (formerly Baptist Hospital) and Centennial Medical Center, positions she continues to hold today. Dr. Piper also served as a Clinical Instructor at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she helped educate and train the next generation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She has been very involved in leadership roles at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in Middle Tennessee. These roles included being selected to become Chairman of the areas largest OB/Gyn Department following being chosen as that Department’s Vice Chairman. She has served on the Executive Committee of the OB/Gyn Department at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital for many years.

An esteemed professional, Dr. Piper is a member of several medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association and the Nashville Academy of Medicine. She is also a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Along with her service in the medical community, Dr. Piper is an active supporter of non-profit organizations such as the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, to which she contributed as a member of the Board of Directors from 1991 to 1994; and Health Net, Inc. (now Health Spring), for which she sat on the Board of Directors for 10 years. A longtime resident of Nashville, Dr. Piper enjoys snow skiing, tennis, boating, college and NFL football and hiking in her spare time.
